Testimonials
The members of Laborers Local 860 greatly appreciate the hundreds of individuals who have signed our petition, acknowledging their support for our efforts to represent the men and women working at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.
Besides signing the petition, some of our supporters offered a message to Tess Neff and Judge Thomas O’Malley about their decision to strip Justice Center workers of their union representation and walk about from the bargaining table.
Here is just a sample of those comments:
“I am a vendor in this facility. First and foremost the wellness and safety are in extreme danger. Everyday it a ticking time bomb with respect to the security of all who are in the locked facility. The actions of these administrators are a clear indication that they have no regard for the staff, vendors and most importantly the STUDENTS! I propose that they come beyond the ivory tower that they comfortably reside in and work a week behind the locked doors. Your actions violate so many civil liberties that it’s criminal. Its a shame that it will probably take a death of someone, for you to see the dire situation that exists. I’m telling any and everyone who will listen about the dangerous and toxic work environment you created. ”

“It is absolutely a disservice to EVERYONE to strip workers of union rights. Especially with such a vulnerable population…. The conditions at the detention center are unsafe and traumatizing. Part of fixing it is being fair to staff who take care of these kids who are locked up. ESPECIALLY a place that’s been under scrutiny for years and at least once tried to pretend they care about these kids. I mean, it says that the county truly doesn’t care about rehabilitating or servicing underserved youth. Do better. .”

“These two are an embarrassment. They should be ashamed of their spineless actions. Get your asses back to the table and be fair with your damn employees! Pathetic!”

“What you are doing Ms Neff is wrong, you stated you are willing to treat County workers with fairness and respect you and your Administration has done everything but be fair and respectful. We as Detention Officers want representation and we want our Union.”

“You remember what country this is, correct? While labor laws have been weakened they do still exist. You cannot unilaterally decide that the workers are no longer unionized. Get back to the table! ”

“This is blatant union-busting. Judge O'Malley and Administrator Neff should be ashamed. You ask for labor's support when you run and promise to stand up for labor's rights, but then stab organized labor in the back.”

“Ms. Neff, I find your actions to be very disingenuous. It’s my understanding that you are a Democrat and have applauded the endorsement of labor, yet you’ve taken action to strip union workers of their bargaining rights. It’s obvious to me that you are the typical bait and switch type of politician”

“We demand that County Administrator Tess Neff and Justice Thomas O'Malley abandon their anti-labor and anti-employee tactics and return to the collective bargaining table with Cleveland Laborers Local 860. How can you be an officer of justice while committing an injustice?”
